The market for exclusive sports electric cars is slowly growing, and even though small series manufacturers are partially exempt from the European Union’s emissions hunt, carmakers such as Ferrari probably have an electric future. Elkann sees this as an opportunity, not an obligation, at least in his words.

“Our interpretation of these technologies in both motorsport and road cars is a huge opportunity to bring Ferrari’s uniqueness and passion to new generations,” he said.

Ferrari has not yet rushed with electromobility. Currently, a maximum of plug-in hybrid devices is available. “We firmly believe that battery technology is not yet sufficiently developed to meet the needs of the supercar,” said Enrico Galliera, head of sales last year, adding: “We do not believe that this technology can meet Ferrari’s needs in the next five years.”

Maserati MC20 can be an inspiration. The supercar debuted at the end of last year with a six-cylinder, but in 2023 the electric variant will also be introduced.
