The first electric BMW M car could be called the iM3, according to a trademark application

The German car manufacturer BMW and its sports car M division are gradually developing new electric models and it is not hidden that we will expect the first electric M model in the foreseeable future. News from Germany suggests that the first electric M model will be called the “iM3”. Such is the application of the car manufacturer to the German Patent and Trademark Office.

The Bavarians are not in a hurry yet with plans to abandon the internal combustion engine, and BMW management representatives do not hide that at least for a while, the regular internal combustion M3 could coexist with an electric counterpart, moreover, they will most likely be built on the same platform.

The automaker is in no rush to create such a machine yet, and you should not think that the trademark application means that an electric M3 is just around the corner – manufacturers regularly apply for various trademarks and often never use them, but in this way they protect their interests in using certain names at some point in the future.

BMW representatives do not hide that an electric M3 will not be created in a hurry and it must be better than the current cars. So, it should retain the characteristics typical of M machines. Technically, BMW is capable of creating a machine with a capacity of more than 1000 horsepower, but the important thing is that this power is channeled to the asphalt. Also, the manufacturer must solve the question of how to maintain high-quality handling characteristics, taking into account the additional weight from electric car batteries and other parts.
