The first cruise ship to stop in Greece has sailed. This is the Costa Luminosa which started from the port of Trieste to cross the Adriatic Sea and touch the Greek coasts. After making a stop in Bari, the ship continues its itinerary to four splendid Greek destinations: Corfu, Athens, Mykonos and Katakolo / Olympia.
From now on, throughout the summer and until mid-November, the Costa Luminosa will leave for 27 cruises in Greece in complete safety. Greece is one of the most requested destinations by cruise passengers, Italians and beyond.
Due to Covid, the excursions made once they reach the ports will be in total safety. The excursion program has been totally renewed, and will allow you to discover little-known places, exclusively for the guests of the company with new proposals also in the menus on board, with dishes linked to the places touched by the itinerary.
If many have already had the opportunity to visit Athens, the beautiful island of Mykonos or even Corfu, not everyone has already gone to Katakolo or Katakolon, a small fishing village south of Patras, which has grown thanks to the construction of the modern port that allows the docking of cruise ships that stop over to allow cruise passengers to visit the archaeological site of Olympia.
The ancient Greek city, discovered only in 1776 by the English archaeologist Richard Chandler and his expedition called “Society of amateurs”, was the home of the olympic games (it is here that the Olympic torch is still lit today using an ancient technique, that of the rays of the sun whose heat allows to obtain a flame), but it was also a place of worship of great importance, as evidenced by the remains of ancient temples , theaters, monuments and statues, which came to light after the excavations carried out in the area where the city stood. The most famous temple of Olympia was the one erected in honor of Zeus inside which was the gigantic statue of the god made of gold and ivory by Phidias in 430 BC and inserted between the Seven wonders of the world.
Costa Cruises has developed a safety protocol that guarantees a peaceful cruise to all those who decide to embark on a new adventure. The health and safety procedures of Costa ships have been strengthened thanks to the adoption of the Costa Safety Protocol, the protocol developed together with scientific experts and the Italian authorities, which contains operational measures relating to all aspects of the cruise experience, both edge is on the ground.
Among the measures envisaged are: the reduction in the number of guests; swab test for all guests before boarding and mid-cruise; test with buffer for the crew before boarding and regularly during the period of stay on board; daily temperature control and every time you get off and return to the ship or enter the restaurants; visit destinations only with protected excursions; physical spacing on board and in the terminals; new ways of using on-board services; strengthening of sanitation and medical services; use of the protective mask, when necessary.
The Costa Luminosa is a ship that can accommodate up to 2,826 passengers and 1,050 crew members, but due to the pandemic, the capacity has been halved. On board, however, passengers can take advantage of the 11 bars, four restaurants, three swimming pools, one of the multi-sports field, the Spa and the Formula One simulator.
But this ship is also a floating museum. There are many works of art and design on board, starting with the “Reclining Woman 2004”, a sculpture by Fernando Botero that fills the central hall of the ship. The name of the “Luminosa” takes its inspiration from the play of light enhanced by the Murano chandeliers, from the crystals, from the iridescent fabrics and from a particular theatrical lighting in all the spaces of the ship. Starting from the Supernova Atrium, where you can admire the brightest stars in the universe from every bridge. And then, the whole ship is covered with precious boiserie, from the floors to the ceilings. A true luxury cruise for those lucky enough to board this ship.
