The first concerts of the newly established South Kurzeme festival “Rimbenieks” are held / Article

Saturday, July 10, at Smaiži Church and Sunday. On July 11, people gathered on the island of Cīrava Castle Park to enjoy concerts offered for the first time in various places of the region by the South Kurzeme festival “Rimbenieks”, the representatives of Liepāja Symphony Orchestra informed. The concerts of the festival will take place in Vecpils, Aizpute, Priekule, Grieze, Grobiņa, as well as in Liepāja until August 20.

Musicians of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra – violinists Diāna Reimane and Gunārs Mūrnieks, viola player Elīna Čipāne and cellist Krišjānis Gaiķis – performed music by Bach, Dvorak and Tchaikovsky at the opening concert of the festival in Smaiži Church. But the next day in the park of Cīrava Castle, the listeners could enjoy the sound of the Liepāja Horn Quartet.

The South Kurzeme festival will continue with two concerts in Vecpils. Saturday, Jul. 17, at 8 pm at Vecpils Sv. The ensemble of wind instruments “Libava Brass Quintet” will perform Laurence banīca, but at 20.00 the Liepāja String Quartet will give a concert at the walls of Vecpils Dižlāņi manor. On Sunday, July 18, the festival “Rimbenieks” will visit the apple orchard of Aizpute castle manor with a concert of the woodwind ensemble “Kurland Quintet”.

The new South Kurzeme festival bears the name of Evaldas Rimbeniekis. Representatives of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra explained: “This man, whose fate has taken him from the farmhouse in Gramzda Parish, Priekule District, not only to Aizpute and Liepaja, but also to perform the duties of Kārlis Ulmanis, Minister of Government, Liepāja Opera, Liepāja Opera, People’s Founder of the Conservatory and Art School almost 100 years ago, as well as the restorer of the Liepaja Philharmonic. The festival invites you to travel around South Kurzeme, discovering its cultural and historical heritage, natural splendor and human hospitality, meeting in summer concerts and enjoying the passionate play of Liepaja musicians. Evaldis Rimbeniekis’ dream of a developed high cultural society is still alive, it will be carried forward by the South Kurzeme festival “Rimbenieks”. “
