TRENTO. The first supermarket in Italy without checkouts is born. Tomorrow, Wednesday 8 November, the Trentino cooperative Dao will inaugurate the first point of the Peninsula in Verona, where the ribbons and crates with the “Tuday Conad” sign will not exist.
And, in the first months of 2024, the “hyper-technological” supermarket” (the infrastructure for the creation of a digital payment flow was provided by Nexi) will also arrive in Trento, precisely in Piazza Santa Maria Maggiorein the place where a Unicredit branch once stood.
For the first time in Italy, so, customers will be able to take the products you intend to purchase from the shelves and then go out, without the need to pass them to the checkout belt. Throughout the store, special sensors will identify the chosen items and add them to the virtual cart, up until the moment of checkout.
Entrance to the store is free: you can choose while shopping the products, place them in bags, backpacks or in your pockets. “Smart” cameras and scales will recognize what is chosen by each customer, who will be able to view purchases on special totems once they reach the payment area.
Here the balance will take place exclusively digitally: it will be possible to pay with credit cards of any circuit or with the “Tuday Prende & Vai” app. To complete the payment, simply scan the QR code generated in the app under the exit totems. The identification of the products purchased by the customer and the debit procedure are managed by XPay, Nexi’s payment gateway.
The Verona supermarket covers an area of approximately 200 square metres and is part of a context of proximity and neighborhood spending promoted by the Dao cooperative.
