After the resounding success of her first book: ‘Entre dos mundos’, published in 2019, which made her the first author of full-length manga books in Albacete, Albacete cartoonist Alba María Roldán returns with ‘Siam’, her brand new second work.

This is the first volume of a series that will discover the mysterious history of ‘Siam’, the main character of the saga created by the artist, who reveals that “it is a closed circle” in which she has already composed the general history of beginning to end, and now little by little “I will develop the characters,” he clarifies.
A project that the creator had been in her hands for a long time and that now she is finally bringing to light, highlighting that “although I had it somewhat isolated due to lack of time, from time to time I was writing and drawing things. Confinement helped me to get serious about it and move it forward “, he confesses
The good reception of his previous job has been key to taking the step and starting this new adventure. “It had very good reviews and people were left wanting more. I am very interested in the opinion of readers and the fact that I received good reviews from people I didn’t even know was something that encouraged me a lot when it came to starting something new, ”says the author.
A new project with which you have many short and long-term future plans. “There is already a project to put a stand in a craft fair and be able to sell it directly to readers and in the future I would love to put one in ‘Albanime’ with my drawings and my books. I am also studying Japanese and one of my dreams would be to translate it into that language so that they can read it there too ”.
The elaboration of this new book has been very handmade and homemade, from the drawings made in pen by the artist, to the binding of Daniel Pablo in ‘Parchment’, which makes it an even more special and mysterious edition.
The story of ‘Siam’
The story takes place in a parallel world called ‘Omega’ that is divided into two kingdoms: the Eastern Kingdom, which has the characteristic of being very cold and the Western Kingdom, which on the contrary is very warm. The two kingdoms have in common the existence of a superior race: albinos, superior beings, since they have 80% of the brain capacity, very powerful, almost invincible and untouchable. The difference is that in the warm Western Kingdom, albinos are worshiped and treated as gods they have to protect, but in the cold Eastern Kingdom, albinos are hunted in order to be exterminated, as its inhabitants think that his magnificent qualities are actually dangerous powers for the planet. The story begins after ten years of the extermination of all albinos, when in the Western Kingdom, where they were venerated, a 12-year-old albino called ‘Siam’ appears, accompanied by a mysterious girl.
Self-taught draftsman
He loved to draw just like the other boys and girls, with the difference that Alba María didn’t stop doing it for a second, with the added value that at just three years old he already had a special skill with pencils. He drew everything that came to mind and always in minute detail. At the age of 10, she was amazed at the world of manga and anime that she saw on children’s television series. “I loved the animation of the drawings, so different from the western ones that I had always seen,” he says.
Through reading, practicing and putting a lot of effort into it, he soon realized that in addition to drawing he liked to tell stories with his drawings, so he began to create individual characters and faded stories until, at the age of 26, he made the decision of unifying everything and releasing his first book with a very personal, original and different. “There is no aspect of the manga that I particularly liked. I have read about robots, love or destruction and as a result of that I have been taking what I like the most to create my own style ”, explains the cartoonist.
Now the author continues to pursue her dream of ‘Siam’, a story of which she feels very happy and proud. “Although the series has just begun, I really want to get to the end to reveal everything because I’m sure no one expects it,” she concludes.
