In August, beekeeper Márta Tamás from Kimle discovered the first domestic specimens, which were identified on August 24 by a staff member of the Hungarian Natural History Museum and recognized as Asian horse wasps (Vespa velutina).
Minister of Agriculture István Nagy announced it on his social media page, and the Little Land to his interest, he confirmed that the nest had been found, and the head of the ministry, who is also a beekeeper, thanked the team for their attentive, persistent and enthusiastic work.
We are happy to report that we have succeeded in identifying the nesting site of the first Asian hornet colony in Hungary. The beekeeper who first spotted the wasp, Dutch and Belgian specialists and OMME employees took part in the reconnaissance. The first wasp was caught at 11:41 and the location of the nest was successfully located in about an hour.

Yesterday (Thursday) I took part in the search for the nest of the Asian horse wasp (Vespa velutina nigrithorax), many thanks to the Belgian and Dutch team for coming to us and removing the nest in a professional manner! I would like to single out the work of the local beekeepers, Kimle residents, firefighters and, last but not least, the OMME employees!
