The night train left Maastricht at 01:01 in the direction of Schiphol. Along the way, the train stopped at stations in Sittard, Roermond, Weert, Eindhoven, Den Bosch, Utrecht, Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena and Amsterdam South. At 03:15 the train arrived on time at the airport station. At 5:40am, the train will return to Maastricht via the same route, where it is scheduled to arrive at 7:57am.
During the first ride, snacks and drinks were offered to passengers and live music was provided by singer and former professional footballer Björn van der Doelen and Dutch-speaking pop trio WIES, among others. “This made the already special Arriva Pinkpop train feel almost magical,” the carrier says.
Since last year, European legislation has allowed carriers to offer connections at their own risk and without government concessions. Arriva is the first carrier in the Netherlands to make use of the legislation.
In September 2021, the Consumers and Markets Regulatory Authority (ACM) announced that it sees no objections to Arriva night trains from Maastricht and Groningen to the Randstad. Night trains from Groningen will leave for the first time next month.
