  • With its first actions, the official cabinet takes a worrying step towards the return of Gazprom, Ivaylo Mirchev from “Gazprom” wrote on FacebookDemocratic Bulgaria“Democratic Bulgaria” is a center-right political association composed of” (DB). His comment was published on the DB page on the social network.

According to him, the return of Russian gas could block opportunities for alternative supplies and leave the country completely dependent on Moscow.

    It also offers six-step solutions.

The government should continue negotiations with Greece for an agreement on the allocation of guaranteed capacity for Bulgaria to Revitusa, Mirchev points out. Secondly, the dialogue with Turkey and Botash should be continued with the mediation of the EC to sign an intersystem agreement with Bulgartransgaz so that the Turkish terminals are used.

The head of “Bulgargaz”: There will still be a shortage of gas with the arrival of the heated season

A third step, according to him, is to improve the framework agreement with Cheniere as a price.

There should be compensations for natural gas for businesses and households, believes the DB representative. For the business, a mechanism should be prepared for tenders to treat the reserve, so that it is stimulated to reduce gas consumption against compensations on a commercial basis, Mirchev suggests. Payments should be tied to investments in improving energy efficiency, he points out.

And he adds that energy poverty benefits should be introduced, with which gas households can purchase highly efficient electrical appliances, thereby further putting pressure on consumption.

The DB representative also notes that the storage facility in Chiren is being filled according to schedule and is currently above the level it was in previous years at the same time – nearly 50 percent.

From July 1, 2022, the full amount of gas from the “Shah Deniz II” field should enter our country. In the second half of the year, Bulgaria will receive 430 million cubic meters, and for the first six months the delivered quantities were 160 million cubic meters. The total delivered quantities for 2022 will be slightly more than 50 percent of the agreed 1 billion cubic meters annually, comments Ivaylo Mirchev.
