Fire in the middle of the district: According to the fire brigade, a fire broke out in Hamburg’s well-known theater ‘Schmidts Tivoli’ on the Reeperbahn on Tuesday morning. The alarm was received shortly before half past nine, fire brigade spokesman Jan Ole Unger said at the scene. The fire was later extinguished around 12, it was later said. “We are very pleased that the fire was brought under control so quickly and that no major damage was caused. So we can continue playing tonight,” Schmidt boss Tessa Aust said in a press release.

According to the theatre, two performances are scheduled to take place on Tuesdays at 3pm and 7.30pm. A show by Mary Roos and Wolfgangtrepper scheduled for 3pm will be postponed to Wednesday. Subsequent submission may take place according to the current status. A rear building burned down, the historic theater hall was not affected. The fire department spokesman said: “The theater hall smells like smoke.”

Hamburg’s culture senator Carsten Brosda also responded with some relief to t-online’s question: “I am relieved that nobody was injured in the fire and that only minor effects on the game are to be feared.” He thanked the emergency services, who “thankfully ensured the theater hall was not damaged by putting out the fire” and carefully guarded the secured building.

When the first forces arrived, gray and black smoke billowed from the roof behind the great hall, fire department spokesman Unger said. “It was clear that a huge fire had spread.” Immediately several extinguishing tubes were used and two turnstiles were placed. Two professional fire engines and several volunteer firefighters were alerted.

“It’s a very old building, which makes fighting the fire very difficult and complex for us,” Unger explained on the spot. “We want to be careful that our work doesn’t cause major damage here, but of course we also have to fight the fire at the same time.” Each Hamburger is emotionally linked to the “Schmidts Tivoli”.

In total, professional firefighters and volunteer firefighters were on site with 50 emergency services. The cause of the fire is not yet clear. This is now being determined by the police, according to Unger.

Due to the operation, Davidstrasse was closed in the direction of the Reeperbahn, police said on Twitter. There were traffic disruptions in the area of ​​the Reeperbahn.
