Strong forces are operating in the area – They are expected to fly through Jordan
Under partial controlthe fire that broke out yesterday near the State Forest of Limassol, in an inaccessible area of the Akrounta community, was set.
According to the latest information from the Department of Forestry, the fire is estimated to have burned forest vegetation covering an area of approximately 6.5 km2.
In the context of activating the Plan “HEPHAESTUS» the Ministerial Crisis Management Team was convened at the ZINEN Coordination Center in Larnaca.
Despite this, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, had a communication with him in the morning Emmanuel Macronwho responded positively and placed at the disposal of the Republic of Cyprus flying means in case of need.
They operate in the area strong ground forces of the Forest Department (25 fire engines, 8 earth movers, 10 tankers and 141 people) of the Fire Service (8 fire engines and 23 people), Civil Defense (4 fire engines and 12 people) and Game and Wildlife Service (4 fire engines and 8 persons). The operation involves communities, volunteers, the Cyprus Institute as well as 8 flying firefighting vehicles.
In efforts to extinguish it of fire will be assisted by the two aircraft expected to arrive from Jordan.
Ground and aerial firefighting efforts continue to contain the fire under full control as soon as possible.
