The reduction of industrial production should lead to the reduction of the emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere, but in practice it has doubled.
The global financial crisis in 2008 led to a significant release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere – the main cause of the greenhouse effect, scientists say.
By the end of this year, the concentration of CO2 polluting the atmosphere has reached record levels, notes the report by scientists from the University of Aix-Tetr. There are no signs of improvement in the Earth’s ecology, and experts believe that the main reason for this is the financial crisis. The reduction of industrial production should lead to the reduction of the emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere, but in practice it has doubled. The main fault lies with the developing countries, report the specialists of the Global Carbon Project.
The growth of the emission of harmful gases is related to the extensive use of fossil fuel. China, India, Brazil, Russia and even poorer countries have traditionally used a lot of petroleum products and coal. Here, “green technologies” are developing very slowly. And during an economic crisis, the financing of innovation projects first of all suffers.
