In a few hours it will be clear which team will be able to celebrate their first title of the season. Borussia Düsseldorf and TTC Neu-Ulm meet this Sunday in the final of the Liebherr Cup. Düsseldorf won the semi-finals in the ratiopharm arena Ulm/Neu-Ulm 3-0 against reigning champions 1. FC Saarbrücken TT, while TTC Neu-Ulm also secured the final 3-0 ticket in a local duel against TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen at the neighboring table. After a short break, the showdown takes place in front of 5,000 spectators on center field – and of course all fans can also be present from home: Spontent broadcasts live on Twitch.

In the new edition of the 2022 final, Düsseldorf took revenge for their 1: 3 defeat a year ago, and in impressive fashion. In the end, the record champions only conceded two sets to their longtime rival. The critical point was the second match, in which Dang Qiu got the break: meanwhile, he had to face a 1-1 draw against Darko Jorgic, who was getting stronger and stronger. But the European champion quickly regained control and finally won 3:1 (11:8, 5:11, 11:7, 11:5). As Anton Källberg had previously beaten Cedric Nuytinck 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-7), Düsseldorf were 2-0 up after about an hour. And then came Timo Boll: In the duel between the players of the German national team, he first lost an advantage of 8:3, but then decided the set on the razor’s edge with 15:13 – in the end it was 3:1 (11: 5 , 7:11, 15:13, 12:10) in Dusseldorf 3:00.

Dimitrij Ovtcharov scored decisively for Neu-Ulm

It was equally clear at the next table for Final Four rookie Neu-Ulm. It was Dimitry Ovtcharov, of all people, who made it the most exciting, seen at the Final Four for the first time since 2009. The Olympic bronze medalist fought an incredibly close match with third-placed Can Akkuzu and also faced two match points by Akkuzu in the fifth set. But Ovtcharov rejected both and finally used his second match point for the 3:2 (13:15, 11:9, 17:19, 11:7, 13:11). Truls Moregardh easily won the opening singles 3:0 (11:6, 11:6, 11:9), Lin Yun-Ju also won 3:1 (11:9, 13:11, 9:11, 11 :9) against Alvaro Robles.

The grand finale will follow after a short break on the center court of the ratiopharm arena.
