This May 2 and 3 concludes the process that began in January of this year with the stage of testimonial evidence, where around a hundred witnesses appeared, presented by the thirteen defendants and the three plaintiff organizations, represented by the Environmental Ombudsman who He was the one who filed the lawsuit that led to this trial in 2016.
The Second Environmental Court of Santiago will house the final arguments of the so-called Largest trial for environmental damage in the history of Chiledue to the number of defendants, the large number of witnesses summoned, and due to the seriousness and complexity of the damage in this territory, which is the Sacrifice Zone oldest in the country.
In this way, the Court will have all the necessary background information to begin reviewing the evidence presented during the trial and thus be able to decide a sentence, a process whose length in time is uncertain.
In two daily blocks, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the representatives of the defendants and the plaintiffs will present their final arguments before the Court, an instance that will be transmitted in live through the YouTube channel of the Second Environmental Court of Santiago (@2Tribunal_Environmental-Chile).
The schedule for both days is already defined and will be as follows:
Tuesday May 2. AM Session: Plaintiffs, Women in the Sacrifice Zone in Resistencia, Municipality of Puchuncaví, AES Andes and CODELCO. PM Conference: Puerto Ventanas, ENEL, GNL and COPEC.
Wednesday May 3. AM Conference: GASMAR, OXIQUIM, PACSA, Melón and ENAP. PM Conference: Ministry of the Environment and Catamuntún Energy.
The fishermen’s unions of Horcón and Ventanas, together with the group of Women of the Sacrifice Zone in Resistencia (Muzosare), will be present at this instance of final arguments, meeting on the outskirts of the 2nd Environmental Court of Santiago, located on Morandé street No. 360, corner of the Company of Jesus.
