UEFA appointed Spanish referee Antonio Miguel Mateu Lahoz on Wednesday to do justice in the Champions League final between Manchester City and Chelsea, while Frenchman Clement Turpin will perform the same task in the League final Europa between Villarreal and Manchester United.
The 44-year-old Spaniard, an international referee since 2011, will lead his first final in Europe’s top competition, having served as the fourth official in the one between Liverpool and Tottenham two years ago. In this way, Mateu ends a great season, since he was also recently selected for the next Europe.
The Valencian will be accompanied on the boards by Pau Cebrián Devis and Roberto Díaz Pérez del Palomar, while Carlos del Cerro Grande will act as fourth referee and Alejandro José Hernández Hernández will be in charge of the VAR assisted by Juan Martínez Munuera, Íñigo Prieto López de Cerain and the Pole Pawel Gil.
For his part, Clemente Turpin, 38, has been an international referee since 2010 and will also be in charge of his first European final, after having been fourth official in the 2018 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool.
