The Filmtheater Harmonie Wins Cinema Program Prize for Best Annual Film Program 2022

The Filmtheater Harmonie in Frankfurt has been awarded this year’s cinema program prize for the best annual film program 2022. Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth (Greens) presented the award, which is endowed with 20,000 euros, on Wednesday evening in Ludwigslust in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Torsten Frehse from the jury praised the “great and diverse program” of the “Harmonie” film theatre. The makers offer a wide variety of formats. There is a successful mix of analogue and digital marketing and a high level of occupancy. “This is how modern cinema works,” said Frehse.

The award ceremony took place in Ludwigslust because the local film theater “Luna” had won the cinema program award in the previous year.

Other main prizes, each worth 10,000 euros, were presented to the “Lichtburg” film palace in Oberhausen for the best children’s and youth program and to the “Studio-Filmtheater” on Dreiecksplatz in Kiel for the best short film program. The “Moviemento” cinema in Berlin received an award for the best documentary film programme.

Roth assures support

According to Roth, around 300 applications were received for the 2023 cinema program award. 224 cinemas were selected by the jury for one of the awards, all of which are endowed. In addition, three distribution companies were honored for their commitment to cultural films.

Roth said cinemas had been through a very tough time during the corona pandemic. Although they are now suffering from the high energy prices, things are clearly going up again. Visitor numbers recovered. Roth assured the program cinemas continued support.
