The film The Wave has its Prague premiere iRADIO

Without pathos, he can arouse national pride, that’s how the audience evaluated Jiří Mádl’s new feature film Waves after the ceremonial premiere on Tuesday evening in Prague’s Slovanský dům cinema. In it, the director presents exciting and until now partially secret stories of radio journalists from the period of the Prague Spring. The film has already been appreciated by viewers in Karlovy Vary and Slavonice.

The audience rewarded the film experience with applause, the length of which could compete with the one that ended the screening of Waves at the festival in Karlovy Vary.

“Perfect movie. It needs to be let down, but I’m excited about it. I’m glad I didn’t live that time, and I feel sorry for everyone who did. I think that for everyone who experienced that time, the film will be painful. However, it is necessary for people to know this,” described one of the viewers.

“I think it’s quite a topical topic when we see what’s happening in Ukraine, for example. I think there are a lot of parallels,” said another of the participants of the premiere.

With the central film and fictional character Tomáš Havlík, the viewer is transported to the radio newsroom of international life full of real characters. It is led by Milan Weiner, played by Stanislav Majer, and behind the microphone the audience will also see Věra Šťovíčková, played by Táňa Pauhofová.

“I am extremely grateful that I had the opportunity to give her face and soul,” said the actress.

Other members of the editorial staff were played by Petr Lněnička, Vojtěch Kotek or Martin Hofmann. They and other actors will go to regional previews with director Jiří Mádl.

By the end of the week, they will show the film in Pilsen, České Budějovice and Boskovice. Cinemas will then start screening the film The Waves next Thursday.
