The hairdressers and beauticians in southern Thuringia and nationwide drew attention to their precarious situation in February with an unusual campaign. With the “Operation of the Dead Scissors”, during which scissors were collected from closed hairdressing salons across the country, they emphasized the demand for their companies to be opened up. Because without the possibility of finally earning money by practicing the skilled trade, the existence of many hairdressers, beauticians and podiatrists is threatened.
“Every pair of scissors stands for a fate”, emphasizes Manuela Glühmann, General Manager of the Chamber of Crafts in South Thuringia. “The hairdressers are only one side of the coin, the other side are the beauticians, podiatrists, nail designers, all of whom have no perspective at the moment. Clear statements from politicians are still missing here. These crafts must not fall through the rust. We mustn’t wake up when they have disappeared! “
The “Dead Scissors Action” will take place in Berlin at the end of February 25, 2021. There, the collected scissors are handed over to representatives of federal politics in front of the Reichstag building.
