The Film “Terminal”: A Masterpiece of the 2000s with an Unexpected Plot Twist

The film “Terminal” is one of the best that was made in the 2000s. Budget 60 thousand dollars. Great cast. An extraordinary plot. A good rating – 7.4 on the most authoritative film site IMDb. And everything seemed to be nothing. But there is a school on a school and the school is driving around.

Remember the plot? Tom Hanks’ hero Viktor Navorski flies to New York from the fictional country of Krakozhia. But while he was flying, a coup occurred in his country. The country ceased to exist. His visa was no longer valid. His documents too. He cannot go through passport control. Go back too.

What kind of country is this? Yes, this is Belarus! And the problem is not that any military coup is impossible there in principle. The point is different. When we are shown Victor’s passport, we see the coat of arms of Belarus. Albeit slightly modified.

True, for some reason the name of the country is written in Latin. “KRAKOZHIA REPUBLIC” looks very comical. Was it really impossible to write everything in Cyrillic?

But that’s not the fun part. When we see the main character’s driver’s license, it’s difficult to hold back laughter. These are real Belarusian rights. With real Belarusian language. And the real city of Gomel, which is located in the southeast of Belarus.

But the name VIKTOR NAVORSKI is translated as… Gulina Gulnara Nadirovna. WHAT?

In what universe is this even possible? Okay, you don’t know the Cyrillic alphabet (we still remember this from the episode with the passport). But how can you not see that Gulnara Gulina is clearly not Viktor Navorski. There, even the number of letters is different. And the letters themselves are different.

Or was this done on purpose? Or maybe Gulnara Nadirovna was a consultant for the film and the rights were hers?

There they also confused the letter C with the letter Ш. As a result, it turned out not VADDZITSELSKAE, but VADZISCHELSKAE. But this is already so, little things.

In general, perhaps the vigilant American border guards were at least a little familiar with the Cyrillic alphabet. And it was precisely this inconsistency that confused them. Then questions about why the documents are invalid disappear by themselves.
