Joaquin Phoenix goes on a mind-boggling psycho trip. Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda and her book club travel to Italy, and “Adiós Buenos Aires” pays homage to tango.

Beau Wassermann is afraid – and has an escalating mother complex. The middle-aged neurotic played by Joaquin Phoenix embarks on a three-hour odyssey in “Beau is Afraid” and experiences violence and animated dream worlds. The wild genre mix of drama, fantasy and social satire is the third feature film by director Ari Aster for the popular indie studio A24 after “Hereditary” and “Midsommar”. Aster found excellent actors in supporting roles alongside Phoenix, but his overflowing ideas pose a challenge to viewers.

“Book Club – A new chapter”: Bridal alarm in Italy

Berlin (dpa) – “Book Club – The best is yet to come” is an ensemble comedy that was launched five years ago in autumn. Now moving on to the book-loving ladies: Vivian (Jane Fonda), Diane (Diane Keaton), Carol (Mary Steenburgen), and Sharon (Candice Bergen) got on better than bad during the pandemic years. People still meet digitally for life and book reviews – but a trip to Old Europe is soon to come: Bella Italia is calling; a bachelorette party wants to be celebrated. Ironically, Vivian got engaged, who always insisted on her independence. On the male side of the illustrious cast are Don Johnson and Andy Garcia.

“Goodbye Buenos Aires”: Hommage in the Tango

“Adiós Buenos Aires” by German-Argentine director German Kral is a homage to the Argentine capital and to tango. Julio (Diego Cremonesi) just won’t let go of his hometown of Buenos Aires. In the middle of the severe economic crisis in 2001, the shoe dealer and bandoneon player sold everything he owned to emigrate to Germany and start anew in Berlin. But something keeps getting in the way of his emigration.
