In their letter, the filmmakers point to the international recognition of many Bulgarian films
For immediate resignation the entire political cabinet of the Ministry of Culture is being demanded by people from the film guild – actors, cameramen, directors, producers.
With filmstrips instead of scarves and ties, they gathered in front of the Ministry of Culture to assert their rights. The reason for the film guild’s protests is a text in the Budget 2011 law, according to which the state finances Bulgarian cinema “if possible”.
On large posters were shown the results of studies, according to which Bulgarian films enjoy success when they are shown.
The protestors also held up a poster in front of the ministry with statistics for cinema screening in 2009: 1.56% BG, 18.67% EU, 79.77% USA and world cinema. They read an open letter to Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, in which they ask him whether he will take political responsibility for the destruction of Bulgarian cinema and express outrage at the actions of the Minister of Culture, as well as stating their demand for the resignation of the Ministry’s political cabinet.
In their letter, the filmmakers point out the international recognition of many Bulgarian films and for comparison, they note that the only success of “Goodbye, Mom” is that it managed to involve Bulgaria in a serious international scandal and continues to involve it due to the complete incompetence of those currently managing the Bulgarian cinema.
