The film «Far Land Siberia. Why March 25, 1949? ” / Article / LSM.lv

On the evening of March 25, LTV will have the premiere of Dzintra Geka’s latest documentary about Siberian children “The distant land of Siberia. Why March 25, 1949? ” It offers a look back at the events of 72 years ago, when the Soviet regime deported more than 42 thousand Latvians. –

The film’s director Dzintra Geka admitted in the LTV program “Rīta Panorāma” that she continues to collect materials about this time, because these events are moving away, but she represents the next generation who has to tell about them. Dzintra Geka revealed a personal story: “My father and mother hid in a bunker in the forest in March 1949. It could be said that I was born nine months later, in January 1950. I remember my childhood very well, I remember those empty fields, I remember those houses, I remember that there were no children, I remember how I went to school alone seven kilometers through the woods.

I think it is very important to study and tell these memories, because there are already several generations who know nothing about it. ”

Asked whether it is not emotionally difficult to tell about such difficult events, the author of the lyrics Valdis Lūriņš says:

“It is my respect for those people who have survived their misery and with honor.

That’s what keeps me completely emotional and indulgent in these tragic stories. ”

“Future generations are looking for their loved ones, looking for a connection. They find their grandparents in books, in our films, they see them in photos or stories, and they look for what happened to them, they look for their friends, the people who were with them in exile. I am very optimistic that the younger generation is really interested and interested in this. That’s why we do it already, ”the film director is pleased.
