The award is given to a film that most successfully interprets contemporary reality and the dialogue between different cultures.
The Bulgarian film “Oriental Plays” by the director Kamen Kalev received the CEI – Central European Initiative award at the 21st edition of the Trieste International Film Festival, Sofia Film Fest reported, BGNES reported.
The award is given to a film that most successfully interprets contemporary reality and the dialogue between different cultures. The Bulgarian-Swedish co-production was awarded for “the ability to tell a meaningful and valuable story that is emblematic of the problems associated with globalization, and at the same time impresses with the unique characters of the main characters and their humanity.”
The Central European Initiative (CEI) is associated with the “EASTWEEK” project, which for the first time became part of the Trieste Festival on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. For its second edition, participants from the most prestigious European film schools have been engaged.
In order to offer the film students the most intriguing and useful program possible, in parallel with the presentation of the films included in the competition program of the festival, meetings, various master classes and workshops are organized.
At last year’s “Sofia Meetings” within the framework of the 13th Sofia Film Fest in partnership with CEI, a special discussion dedicated to the current state of distribution of European cinema was organized, in which representatives of some of the most prestigious global distributors in Europe participated.
