The film about Messina Denaro in Castelvetrano, the city responds

(ANSA) – CASTELVETRANO, OCTOBER 13 – The most curious fact was the absence of posters posted in the city and in front of the Selinus theater in Castelvetrano but, apart from this detail, the film ‘Iddu’ by Antonio Piazza and Fabio Grassadonia on Matteo Messina Denaro brought many of the boss’s fellow citizens to the theater who today chose to watch it in their own city. The only three screenings organized by the Municipality after Salvatore Vaccarino’s refusal to show the film in his Marconi cinema (the only one in the city), caused the Selinus theater to fill up, transformed into a cinema for the occasion. The tickets sold over the three shifts were 480 and, already starting from 4 pm, the theater audience was filled with citizens. Few young people in the room, many teachers and ordinary people. Also attending the first screening was the municipal councilor Rosalia Ventimiglia: “I confess that I didn’t like it – she says – because, in part, it mythologizes the figure of Matteo Messina Denaro. However, one thing is certain, that is, that the fugitive made a horrible life. Show it to the students? Yes, but only after having made them aware of the history of the epistolary relationship between Messina Denaro and Antonio Vaccarino”. The vice prefect of Trapani Luciano Zanta Platamone also arrived in the second screening round and the regional deputy Antonello Cracolici, president of the regional anti-mafia commission, is expected for the last screening. “Today must be a moment of rupture with the past – said the mayor Giovanni Lentini present in the theater – let’s deal with this story and make a point to move forward. Naturally the figure of Matteo Messina Denaro should not be mythologised, on the contrary it should be removed from memory of our city”. Last October 10th, the day the film was released in Italian cinemas, Salvatore Vaccarino had the docufilm “Falcone and Borsellino, the fire of memory” shown in his cinema (a few tens of meters from the Selinus theatre), but in the theater c ‘there were only 70 people. The film ‘Iddu’ will be scheduled from 24 October at the Olimpia cinema in Campobello di Mazara, the town where the mafia boss spent the last period of his hiding. (HANDLE).
