“Triple negative” breast cancer accounts for about 15% of these tumors, or about 9,000 new cases per year. They are often young women, and the disease is difficult to cure, with a recurrence rate is often high, as this young woman from Bomy, in Audomarois, recounts. Hence their interest in Trodelvy, which is aimed at women who have already received two types of chemotherapy, and often in a therapeutic impasse. This new targeted therapy mixing chemo and antibodies, has been approved and marketed since April 2020 in the United States.
Filed in March, the marketing authorization (AMM) is being evaluated at the European Medicines Agency (EMA), as part of an accelerated procedure. In the meantime, in France, The National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM) granted nominative temporary authorizations for use (ATU) at the end of 2020. Currently, only sixty-four patients had received temporary authorizations for use in France in January, around fifteen will have access to them in June and a small number should still be able to access them in December. However, each year, 600 to 1,000 women would be eligible for this treatment!
Born at the end of 2020 on social networks, the #MobilizationTriplettes collective is fighting not only to make this treatment and other innovative treatments accessible, but also to raise awareness of triple negative breast cancer.
Launched in April, a petition for access to Trodelvy has collected nearly 60,000 signatures to date.
