In Turkey, firefighters have been fighting forest fires in popular tourist areas on the Mediterranean and Aegean coast for the sixth day. The fires have already claimed the lives of eight people and killed hundreds.
Firefighters continue to fight seven fires out of more than a hundred that have previously been extinguished. Many people have been evacuated.
The mayor of Bodrum has said that the experience is like hell. Turkey has also been assisted by the European Union in sending fire-fighting planes from Croatia and two from Spain. Ukraine, Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran have also come to the rescue.
Turkey has a huge heat of 42 degrees Celsius, which is about five to six degrees above the average seasonal temperature and tends to have strong winds that help the flames to spread.
The heat wave has also caused fires elsewhere in the Mediterranean, especially in Greece and Italy.
