The state of emergency remains in effect in the municipalities of Harmanli and Topolovgrad due to the large fire that broke out yesterday. Fire crews, a helicopter, heavy tracked equipment and a 30-tonne water tanker are still battling the blaze at Mount Sakar. For now, there is no danger to populated areas, BNT reported.
On the Bulgarian-Greek border, the fight against the fire continues for the 20th day. A new fire entered Greece from the west. Efforts are focused on fencing it off with clearings to limit its spread.
Wind and high temperatures are fueling outbreaks on the eastern front of the fire, and more people are expected to join ground and aerial efforts today. Although there is no immediate danger to the villages of Petrovo and Goleshevo, clearings are being built around them as a precaution.
The fires near the three Svishtov villages of Gorna Studena, Kozlovets and Hadjidimitrovo have been extinguished. Teams from Svishtov, Gorna Oryahovitsa and Pavlikeni participated in extinguishing the flames.
Thanks to the quick response of volunteers and equipment from the local agricultural cooperatives, the flames were extinguished in a few hours.
No people were injured and no houses were burnt, while gardens in yards with stored dry corn were partially affected. There was no need to evacuate people from the villages.
According to initial information, in all three cases, the flames broke out in dry grass areas and bushes, but did not pass into forest massifs or cultivated land.
