The fifth edition of the ECOS International Festival of Ancient Music of Sierra Espuña begins

The ECOS International Festival of Ancient Music of Sierra Espuña began last night in the hermitage of Los Remedios de Pliego with the performance of Raquel Andueza and La Galanía, who were in charge of putting the melodies to the first of the concerts, which will be offered within the programming of a fifth special edition of this festival after a year of hiatus due to the pandemic, according to sources from the regional government in a statement.

The event was born in 2016 from a workshop of the orchestra of the University of Murcia to play Baroque and Renaissance pieces. For this, the festival has the perfect tune: the most emblematic musicians on the national scene who have already passed through the event together with emerging ensembles; a combination that will be present this weekend with the groups Mavra and Anacronía, born within the ECOS.

In the Virgen de Los Remedios de Pliego hermitage, Spanish and Italian music of the seventeenth century played last night by the soprano Raquel Andueza and La Galanía, with a repertoire chosen by the followers of their social networks from among all their work to celebrate the ten years of the grouping. Among others, they performed ‘Perché se m’odiavi’ or ‘Si dolce è’l tormento’ by Claudio Monteverdi or ‘La absentia’, ‘Vuestros ojos’ and ‘Bella Mía’ by an unknown author.

The Minister of Education and Culture, María Isabel Campuzano, was present at the opening ceremony. “From the Ministry of Culture, through the Institute of Cultural Industries and the Arts, we support this festival and promote not only the beautiful environments that we have, but also the musical talent that the Region also has, in a safe outdoor edition “, he stressed.

The ‘Passions of the Soul’ of Mavra and Anachrony

The music continues today with the family concert offered by Mavra and the concert ‘Pasiones del alma’ with the other local ensemble, Anacronía. The weekend will conclude with another family concert, this time with Anachronía with classicism music.

The ECOS International Festival of Ancient Music is held in the six municipalities of the Sierra Espuña Tourist Association (Aledo, Alhama de Murcia, Librilla, Mula, Pliego and Totana).
