The field hospital is no longer needed, but the minister opposes the abolition

“The field hospital in Letňany plays the role of back-up capacities in the event of exhaustion of the capacity of” normal “hospitals. With the current declining trend in the number of patients in hospitals, the role of these back-ups “Černý wrote to Novinky.

According to the News, the Black Team of the National Inpatient Care Dispatcher, which was newly established at the Ministry of Health, is to decide whether patients will go to the field hospital at all.

The reserve hospital in Letňany, Prague, for the operation of which is Na Bulovce Hospital, was built by the army at the end of October. In the meantime, however, the increase in the number of infected people has slowed down and so far no patient has had to be transferred to the backup hospital. So far, the state has paid 26 million crowns for the lease, and last week the Ministry of Health decided to extend the contract until February 28. Currently, the premises serve as a training center for the Red Cross.

Despite the declining number of hospitalized, the discussion on whether the ministry will terminate the contract sooner should take place in the second half of January at the earliest, according to the Minister of Health Jan Blatný (for YES). However, the notice period is 21 days, so the lease could be shortened by a maximum of a few days.

“At the moment when the hospital is dismantled or completely deactivated, there are also relatively large costs involved. And at a time when the situation in the whole of Europe is as it is, I think it would not be safe, “said the head of the ministry.

He added that he also recommended that the second field hospital in Brno not terminate the contract at the end of the year.

However, the mentioned argument – that the hospital could be used later – is not supported by other conditions of the operator. Sehnal had previously announced that he would provide the hospital premises by the end of February at the latest. Thus, even in the event of an increase in the number of infected, which, according to experts, will be reflected in hospital capacity in two to three weeks, patients could arrive at the facility for a maximum of a few days.

However, Černý also avoided answering the question of whether it would make sense to transport patients to a facility that will have to start clearing soon. “It can be stated that the hospital is not necessary in terms of capacity at the moment. Advances are created in case of emergency, their non-use is not a sign of poor planning, but on the contrary an expression of responsibility and preparation for the worst case scenario, which no one wants to happen. That is why it was important that the hospital was established, “he wrote to Novinky.
