The Fertinagro Organia plant reissues its emission-neutral factory certificate

Fertinagro Organia, the Fertinagro Biotech plant located in the town of Escucha and specialized in the development of organic and ecological fertilizers, “has in its DNA being a sustainable company, so it takes into account the impact generated by its activity”, as reported by the Térvalis group in a press release. As a company “committed to the planet and society”, it has been working for years to reduce its footprint as much as possible and offsetting its emissions since 2019, when it became the first neutral, zero-emissions factory of the Fertinagro group.

During the year 2022, the company once again adhered to the international emission compensation initiative through the voluntary contribution of an economic amount, proportional to the tons of CO2 generated in the Turolense plant (1,700), and which has been allocated to two projects that act as a carbon sink for reforestation in a developing country.

Thus, Fertinagro Organia has participated, through Ecodes’ Zero CO2 initiative, in two projects. The first of them is located in China and intended for the construction of small and micro hydroelectric plants in the Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan and Guizhou regions, in which contributions have been made since 2019. The second is the REDD Project in Peru, of conservation of the Amazon, as it is an area that is at great risk of deforestation and without sufficient resources to control and protect it adequately.

Deforestation

The Madre de Dios Conservation REDD Project in the Amazon will drastically reduce this deforestation, increasing surveillance of the forest and promoting the generation of benefits in the forest for local communities.

The project covers 100,000 hectares of jungle in the region that belongs to the Vilcabamba-Amboró Ecological Corridor in the Peruvian Amazon, one of the key biodiversity hotspots on the planet.

The forest where the project is located is very important in terms of biodiversity conservation, as it provides habitat for four endangered species of flora and eleven endangered fauna. In addition, from the social point of view, the project will contribute to the sustainable development of rural producers and indigenous communities (Yine tribe, indigenous people in voluntary isolation from the Mashco Piro tribe and other tribes not yet identified) living in the areas of influence. of the project.

Miguel García, director of Fertinagro Organia, was very pleased to be able to maintain the plant as neutral in emissions, since it is the result of “having made considerable efforts in terms of compensation, and also in the active reduction of our carbon footprint, improving our processes to be a sustainable company over time, taking charge of the impacts generated by our business”.

Priorities

“One of our priorities is to have an increasingly respectful production with the environment and for this reason we have obtained the EPD Process certificate that validates the impact calculation of the manufacturing process of our plant,” he added in the press release.

Thus, the Escucha plant has the latest technologies to guarantee efficiency and sustainability in all its processes. And, on the other hand, absolute traceability and rigorous control allow you to comply with all regulations and quality standards.

Every year a total of 120,000 tons of organic and ecological nutrients leave this factory. Some countries to which they are sent are France, Portugal, Greece, Italy and part of South America.

The CeroCO2 Seal certifies that Fertinagro Organia has calculated and compensated all its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, being able to consider them ZeroCO2 and, in addition, has acquired a firm commitment to reduce emissions.
