The fertilizer ban prevents fines for illegal farmers in Overijssel

The peasants got into trouble through no fault of their own. When the State Council canceled the National Nitrogen Approach Program (PAS) three years ago, their companies suddenly went illegal. Under the government’s rejected policy, they didn’t need a permit because they emitted only a small amount of nitrogen. Reporting was enough.

These PAS journalists have been in suspense for over three years and don’t know where to go. For example, they can no longer invest because they can no longer get financing. The problems became even greater when Overijssel was forced to impose penalties on companies without permits. The responsible minister Christianne van der Wal could do nothing for them.

Lifted up

She is therefore relieved now that the province of Overijssel has found a solution which allows the collection of penalties to be waived. ”We’re not there yet. We still have to buy the flagship magazines. But for the moment we have now gained time, which puts the PAS reporters at peace”.

Van der Wal thinks it is terrible that farming families have gotten themselves into this trouble and sincerely hopes that the nitrogen policy now ensures that there is room in the next year to issue a permit for PAS detectors as well. “Only then will these farmers’ problems really be solved.”

Copied

If the problem also occurs in other provinces, the Overijssel solution can be copied, according to Van der Wal. The tenants of the province have been deceived, because now they have to dispose of their manure. This is an expensive business. However, they can be offset by doing something about the price of the lease.
