Corona virus (COVID-19) of China keep raging. Even half of the cases in one day attack a city.
The news agency reports it AFP extensionOn Saturday (12/24/2022), a Communist Party-run news outlet in Qingdao city on Friday (12/23) reported that the city’s health chief said that “between 490,000 and 530,000” new cases of COVID – 19 were registered in the city in one day.
The city is a city with a population of about 10 million people. The transmission of COVID-19 in the city is said to be very fast.
“In a period of rapid contagion in view of an approaching peak,” said the senior official, Bo Tao.
The transmission of the corona virus is expected to continue to increase. Bo Tao said the infection rate of the virus will rise another 10% over the weekend.
China controls the reports
The report was shared by several other news outlets, but was later edited on Saturday (12/24) morning local time to remove the case figure.
China’s National Health Commission said on Saturday that 4,103 new cases of the domestic infection were registered nationwide the previous day, with no new deaths.
In Shandong, the province where Qingdao is located, the authorities have officially registered only 31 new domestic cases.
The Chinese government strictly controls the country’s media coverage, with online censors to remove content deemed politically sensitive.
Most state publications have downplayed the severity of the outbreak. However, several news outlets have hinted at a shortage of medicines and hospitals are starting to become overwhelmed, although estimates of the true number of cases are still poor.
The government of east China’s Jiangxi province said in a social media post on Friday (12/23) that 80% of its population – the equivalent of about 36 million people – are expected to be infected with the COVID- 19 by next March.
According to a statement from the Jiangxi government, more than 18,000 COVID patients were treated in the province’s leading medical institutions in the two weeks to last Thursday (12/22), including nearly 500 serious cases but no deaths.
