The fences were run over – demolished by Arsenal

When BK Häcken took on Arsenal at the Bravida Stadium last week, the London side made a chance not to get the ball behind Jennifer Falk in the Hising team’s goal. Häcken won 1-0 and took advantage ahead of Thursday’s second leg, where a place in the group stage of the Champions League was at stake.

But in the rain at Meadow Park outside London, a big English club was waiting to be effective. The final score was 4-0 and Häcken’s Champions League dream is over.

– I’m just very disappointed with the result. I had hoped that we could make a bit more of a game out of it, says Jennifer Falk.

After an uncertain start, Lia Wälti scored a dream goal in minute 23. It bounced off the underside of the crossbar, towards Falk and into the goal.

– Maybe we managed to get a little more weight, but they have a tailwind today, says Jennifer Falk.

The new man scored his first goal for the team

In the 40th minute it was time again. New Spanish signing Mariona Caldentey scored her first goal for Arsenal after a tackle which forced Falk to run to midfield to speak to the referees.

– He felt like he was canceled a few times before the ball went into the goal and it’s very difficult because he gave them energy and it came early in the game. It would be better for us to go into half-time on the whole.

But it was not possible to influence the Portuguese referee Catarina Campos.

– I talked to her and she said she didn’t see anything, says Jennifer Falk.

Häcken only needed one goal to send the game to extra time, but had a heavy start to the second half. In the 49th minute, Beth Mead pushed a beautiful shot past Falk and the Swedes’ chances dwindled dramatically. Norwegian substitute Frida Maanum stopped the game after a counter-attack in the 78th minute, brilliantly played by Caitlin Foord, and the game was over.

– It was a very difficult game and a sad result. We gave everything, but it wasn’t enough all the way today, says Anna Anvegård.

Open mode lost

She could have given Häcken the lead when she had an open position after ten minutes but she shot wide. She was also free by Manuela Zinsberger in the Arsenal goal at 3-0 but the Austrian saved.

– We put the chances we got in the last game there. Today we have two or three very good situations that we need to score to have a good chance. Then they are more clinical in this game and maybe we are a bit too stubborn in our own penalty area, says the midfielder.

She also believes the 2-0 goal should have been disallowed because central defender Josefin Rybrink was lying.

– That is not to say that you blow your mind when there is a head injury. Then they (the participants) also said that it is someone who interferes, who is in an upside down situation, says Anna Anvegård.

– He felt that the referee was a little up and down. That’s not what decides, but it’s clear when the result goes against you, maybe you take a little more out on the referee, and it felt like a little more like that today, she says and continues:

– When we play games with foreign referees, it feels impossible to get any explanation or answer. It is more that they avoid one. But we said at half-time that we would try not to put too much energy on the referee, that doesn’t help to complain about it. She can be as bad as she wants, we will do better even if she was a total disaster.

“Psychologically, it will be difficult”

The hedge coach, Mak Lind, believes that you start the game well but then you will be in a defensive position.

– We start the game well. We have a good goal chance through Anna Anvegård, where she seems to have an open goal but doesn’t get the shot, he says.

– Then they come into the game and we have to defend. They score a very nice goal where they shoot on strike, cross in. Then suddenly it’s a game and it’s tied in the doubles. Then they scored 2-0 after a head injury, it’s difficult then, the margins are not really with us. We need that when we are against such a skilled football team.

Getting the goal 2-0 against them just before the half-time break was a hard blow for Hising’s team, says Mak Lind.

– Psychologically it will be difficult, he says.

– In general, I don’t put a lot of energy into the referees, but today it was difficult to contact us and agree on some things.

He thought the referees should have stopped the match due to Rybrink’s head injury.

– You usually blow in such situations. Unfortunately, we lose a player in the defensive game, they score goals in that position and it will be a real uphill battle for us where we will try to catch up, he says.

– I think we find some energy at half time because one goal is enough to create a tie again, but just a couple of minutes after the second one it is 0-3. We had to fight hard to find solutions and we made a lot of substitutions and tried to go for it a bit more offensively, but it is natural that the game will be the way it is in the end .

Former Häckenspeleren Rosa Kafaji jumped in in the 89th minute and got five minutes on the field.
