Choupenitch thus developed an appetite for the World Cup in Paris, where he did not perform ideally due to illness and finished in 33rd place. “I had a terrible desire to repair my reputation after two weeks. I told myself that I could win, and it worked out,” he said in a press release.
He enjoyed a maiden victory over Cheung at the Challenge International des Hauts-de-Seine. “I have already suffered a lot of defeats against him in my career, but today I fenced great. I am very happy,” said Choupenitch.
He described the Paris triumph as a great boost for further work. “This is exactly what I needed. I was in Paris for a week at a camp with the French national team, and after the tournament a Frenchman immediately congratulated me that I was really good even during the camp. These are all bits and pieces that are helping me now,” added the Czech swordsman.
