A few days ago, the Federation of Comorian Associations of Nîmes was inaugurated at 14, place Avogadro. The president, Daani Mzembaba and his team had, for the occasion, decorated the premises with clothing and traditional cultural objects from the Comoros archipelago. During this festive moment, demonstrations of traditional songs and dances were offered to the public. “The Comorians of Nîmes did not have a place to meet and to carry out support, cultural or simply meeting activities”, he explains.
There are eight associations of members of the Comorian and Mahoran community in the city of Antonins, and the Federation also aims to federate them, coordinate their activities and support them. “We will offer here socio-cultural activities and support for people in demand, without any discrimination, details Issa Mohamed, the vice-president. This may concern job search, school support for children and day-to-day administrative procedures. Hamada Seha, one of the oldest Comorians in Nîmes, here since 1982, adds: “We will also offer cultural activities and sewing workshops so that young people learn the customs and culture of the country, and cultural discovery outings. For this, the centre social Simone-Veil has promised to help us.”
Support from the City and Emiliano Marcos
Finally, Daani Mzembaba specifies that “The Federation of Comorian Associations was able to have this premises in the heart of Valdegour thanks to the support of the town hall. And it is again thanks to the support of the boss of the Océan company, Emiliano Marcos, that it can pay the rents in waiting to receive its first grants.”
The volunteers of the association will share time on duty to welcome all those who wish to enter, ask for help, or simply exchange views.
