The management contract specifies which services SNCB will have to provide in the next ten years in exchange for its subsidies. The previous one dates back to 2008 and has been extended each time due to political upheaval.
Now the federal government has set a framework for a new agreement that will be negotiated further in the coming months. For example, the government believes that the NMBS should allow more trains to run at early and late hours and during the weekend. It is striking that there are now also requirements about the reception in the stations.
“As Minister of Mobility, I want to provide an ambitious framework through a public service contract for the NMBS,” says Mobility Minister Georges Gilkinet (Ecolo). “Our goal is to attract more travelers to the railways. To this end, we must also provide ourselves with the necessary resources, with a modern governance framework and strong priorities for the future of the railways. “
