The federal government is spending more money on cycling infrastructure

• The promotion of innovative cycling projects for safe cycling cities: Model projects are intended to promote the development of cycling and to strengthen it, especially in cities. For this purpose, 15.5 million euros are to be made available in the next year, and 25 million euros, six million euros and four million euros respectively in the three following years.

In addition to funding the cycling infrastructure, the eight billion euro program also provides funding for climate-friendly shipping, the expansion of waterways, digitization in rail freight transport and more inner-city charging stations for electromobility.

“Anyone who wants to achieve the climate goals must also have the tools. With the environmentally friendly modes of transport water, rail, bike and e-cars in particular, we can achieve a great deal very quickly with additional resources. That is why we focus on the programs that are already in demand, such as our special urban and rural program for cycling or our high-speed program for digitizing the railways. We also want to bring existing bike paths back to top quality as quickly as possible. Together with a special program for bicycle parking spaces at train stations, we can make even more people want to get on their bikes, ”explains Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer.
