The Fear of Russia’s Collapse: Chess Champion Garry Kasparov Predicts the Victory of Ukraine and the Inevitable Fall of Putin

The former world chess champion believes that the fear of Russia’s collapse is often uncontrollable and is at the heart of the calculations of some US and European officials who fear a rise in China and chaos in a country that has nuclear weapons.

According to Kasparov, the collapse of Russia is possible, but after the victory of Ukraine in the war and the defeat of the regime of dictator Vladimir Putin.

“We must proceed from the fact that there is no other option for ending the war, except for the victory of Ukraine. Everything else means freezing. That is, the war cannot end while Putin is in power. Putin’s fall will be the result of Russia’s defeat in the war. Putin’s collapse is inevitable after liberation of Ukraine precisely because the regime does not hold on when the leader loses his legitimacy,” the oppositionist said.

Kasparov considers it likely that some territories may break away from Russia in the future, in particular Tatarstan or Chechnya.

“In my opinion, we need to stop being afraid that Russia will decrease in size. I am not a supporter of total collapse, although there are many people who believe that it cannot be otherwise. Most likely, the ideal scenario (if there can be an ideal scenario) would be re-establishment of the country with the understanding that some Tatarstan will want to be independent. Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Chechnya, maybe someone else,” he explained.

The Russian opposition leader believes that the most important task now is to end the war. In his opinion, dictator Putin will fight “to the last dollar, to the last soldier.”

Predictions about the end of the war

Recall that earlier the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Kirill Budanov, said that this year could be victorious for Ukraine. A similar thesis was also expressed by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov.

At the same time, the US and the EU are more skeptical about the timing of the end of the war. In particular, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that it is necessary to prepare for long-term support for Ukraine.
