Currently, all three vaccines approved for use in the country are available for booster administration in the United States.
The agency also gave a green light to a “mixture” of doses. For example, those who were initially vaccinated with Johnson & Johnson serum may receive a dose of Moderna or Pfizer / BioNTech as a booster.
Prior to administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) must give its consent.
A meeting of the advisory group will be held on Thursday, and Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the CDC, is expected to issue official recommendations.
