The father of small children became paralyzed on a playground – won a lawsuit for liability – VG

A man from Bergen who was paralyzed after an accident on a playground has won in court after he was denied compensation.

The accident happened at Leos Lekeland in Kokstad south of Bergen city center two and a half years ago. Ole Kristoffer Relling hit his head on a metal beam when he was to help his son in a slide. The injury caused him to be paralyzed from the neck down and remained in Haukeland University Hospital for five months, writes NRK.

Relling and the lawyer thought Leos Lekeland was responsible for the damage, while they thought it was self-inflicted. The claim for compensation was rejected.

In July, Relling sued the company that runs the playground and their insurance company to place responsibility for the accident. On Friday, he won in Hordaland District Court, writes Bergensavisen. The two companies are held jointly and severally liable for the damage and must pay Relling’s legal costs. They can also expect a claim for damages.

– There will be a lawsuit, but I have to sit down with my lawyer and go through the details first, says a relieved father of small children to NRK.

– This has been a burden for almost three years.

After the accident, Relling has undergone two operations and has had to learn to walk again. He is out of the wheelchair, but is still undergoing rehabilitation. He goes on work clearance money, works 20 percent in a communications company and waits for the insurance company to calculate his degree of disability.
