The Tesla Model S in the Plaid version has shown itself to the world in the past, but the official performance with the stage and speaker Elon Musk has only taken place now. The company’s founder presented the novelty at the factory in Fremont, California, and the time was not accidental – the car is now being manufactured and delivered to customers.

During the performance, the car was given the opportunity to show its overwhelming acceleration – from zero to the “American 100” 60 mph (97 km / h) it should be able to do in less than two seconds, at least according to the carmaker. A test track was set up for this – and as the video shows, Musk drove it before turning onto the podium. At full throttle, of course.

However, the participants were also able to drive cars, and of course some of them captured the overwhelming acceleration on video. E.g. a recording published by youtuber Dave Mack shows the ride both from the inside and how the acceleration looks from the outside.

During the presentation, Elon Musk also revealed several new features of the Plaid version that were not previously published. E.g. the fact that the new electric motor from the program called Palladium probably uses a carbon sleeve on the rotor for the first time in the world.

“As far as we know, this is the first time in the world that there is a production electric motor with a carbon sleeve on the rotor. This is very difficult to do because carbon and copper have very different degrees of thermal expansion, ”Electrek Muska was quoted as saying. Tesla had to develop a new machine to make this thing, and the result is a small but very powerful and efficient electric motor. The total power of the Model S Plaid is 1020 horses.

According to Musek, a new battery was also created as part of the Palladium program, but he did not provide more details about it. But he said that the modified Model S has the lowest coefficient of air resistance of all production cars – 0.208. At least of the cars currently in production, this is true; Volkswagen XL1 and GM EV1 had a coefficient of 0.19.

Model S Plaid also has a new temperature management system, the most important part of which is the heat pump. The videos also show that a somewhat curious steering wheel went into series production, and the carmaker states that there is more space in the front and rear seats in the car.
