The Tesla Model S Plaid, the car that holds the record for production vehicles in the quarter-mile sprint, has had its first fire. According to Reuters, it happened in Pennsylvania just three days after the car was delivered to the owner.
–
According to lawyer Mark Geragos, the driver could not get out in the standard way, ie using the button – the electric door release did not work. He had to “use force to open the door.” It is not clear whether the use of force means the use of an emergency mechanical crank, which each tesla is equipped with for safety reasons.
–
After ignition, the car drove about ten meters and then turned into a fireball. The incident occurred in the US state of Pennsylvania, in a residential area near the owner’s residence. “It was a horrible and frightening experience,” Geragos said. “It’s a whole new model, we’re investigating. We want S Plaid to be taken out of service and not on the road until it is known what happened, ”he added.

Such a drastic measure could, of course, affect other owners of the Model S Plaid, whose cars did not start burning. In the interests of freedom, we must hope that neither the car manufacturer nor the authorities have the opportunity to immobilize the car remotely or in any other way prevent them from operating.

Tesla boss Elon Musk called the new model “faster than any Porsche and safer than any Volvo” at a presentation at the carmaker’s plant in Fremont, California.

In April, Musk reported that the Model S and Model X had a new battery. “The relatively long development required us to ensure the safety of the battery,” he said at the time. “There were more problems than expected when developing the new version,” he added.

Local firefighters said in a now-deleted Facebook post that “Tesla was on fire” and that they had cooled “batteries to ensure complete extinction.” Electric cars or plug-in hybrids with lithium-ion batteries are usually quenched by immersing them in a tub of water for up to several days.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has stated that it is in contact with the relevant authorities and the car manufacturer and that it is collecting information about the incident.
