The Fastest Growing Electric Car Charging Network in Latvia and the Baltic Countries

The availability of the electric car public charging network in Latvia is growing the fastest compared to neighboring countries. In Latvia, the electric charging network has 2.38 stations for every 10 registered electric cars, in Estonia it is 0.57, and in Lithuania 0.93 stations. Over the last year, Elektrum Drive has created the most charging ports in Latvia – 110. Drivers can safely travel around Latvia, as charging is increasingly developed in the regions. This week it is complemented by a new charging station in Bulduris with an ultra-fast 150 kW DC solution.

The electric car charging network in the Baltic countries, and especially in Latvia, is developing at a sprint speed. In Latvia, this development has been in leaps and bounds over the past year, with Elektrum Drive creating 98 new ports since last summer, some of which have been developed in cooperation with partners. This week, on July 22, another new charging station in Bulduris is being opened with 2 ports and the 150 kW DC solution very popular with Elektrum Drive users, where two users can charge at the same time, splitting the power in half. This is the first Elektrum Drive charging station, which will have a special introductory charging price of EUR 0.1543 per kWh from the opening until the end of the month.

After Elektrum Drive achieved the ambitious goal of 193 ports last year, it is planned to expand them to more than 500 ports throughout the Baltics this year. Compared to neighboring countries, the electric charging network in Latvia is growing the fastest in relation to the number of electric cars, with 2.38 charging stations for every 10 electric cars registered in the country in 2022. For comparison, in Estonia they are 0.57, and in Lithuania 0.93 stations*.

Therefore, the growth ambitions of Elektrum Drive on the Baltic scale is a realistically achievable goal already this year, comments Ansis Valdovskis, director of the Baltic electric transport charging network: “Recently there have been loud announcements about multi-million dollar projects from other developers. It is gratifying that we, Elektrum Drive, are the ones these developers will have to try to catch up with and that we, as industry leaders, will always be one step ahead. Thus, it can be said that there is currently a competition for who will be in second place in the field of electric charging in the Baltic States. Our leading position is ensured by constantly new standards and services that our competitors do not have. For example, extensive cooperation with partners who want to create a charging station on their own territory. The bulldozer charging station is one such example and an important next step in the overall growth.”

In the charging network created by Elektrum Drive in Latvia, the solutions are selected by adapting them to the charging location, that is, the equipment is not the most powerful, but the most suitable for the specific location and needs. In the charging network, devices from 22 kW up to 300 and more kW direct current devices with power balancing options are available in the entire territory of Latvia soon. However, even now, a driver with an electric car can safely and risk-free travel around Latvia using the Elektrum Drive app, which is valid at Elektrum Drive charging network stations with more than 200 ports.
