There is a plant in nature called the fog tree due to the fascinating, curious and spectacular inflorescence. Its size can vary from medium to large and for this reason it would be advisable to plant it in the garden unless you prefer the bonsai version. Nice to see, the tree of fog or cotino or scotano, develops vertically reaching over three meters in height. With the right attention and pruning it is also possible to grow it in pots, even bonsai are also on the market, very popular for furnishing prestigious offices.
Scientifically called Cotinus coggygria, the tree of fog shows branches rich in green, yellow or red oval leaves. Like many plants, in spring it blooms with tiny yellow flowers that turn into as many small fruits in the middle of the summer season. The latter are covered with a thick pink hair that gives a muffled effect to the plant.
How to grow this spectacular plant
It is a plant that over time needs a lot of soil for its deep roots unless you want to prefer the bonsai version. It does not require a particular soil, any type will do well, the important thing is that there is good drainage to avoid water stagnation.
Irrigation can be done regularly in summer without exceeding and in winter it will be enough to test the soil with your fingers to realize if it needs water. If the plant is grown in the garden in winter it is preferable to suspend the irrigation.
A good habit is to fertilize the soil by recycling waste items in the kitchen such as fruit, vegetables, egg shells and more. This will allow to give the right nourishment to the plant in a totally natural way.
The plant can be exposed to direct sun and in a well-ventilated area and is not particularly conditioned by temperatures that are too hot or too cold.
