– In the double industry, you can be so much weird. In one day I can be anything from a bird to a soldier, to the narrator’s voice on «The Farm». There are small roles and big roles. It’s really surprising how much one needs a vote. Everything from a defibrillator, to a solarium, says the 33-year-old.

Maurstad can tell Dagbladet that even those who work with the “Farmen kjendis” episodes have to wait quite close to broadcast time before they get to see what will happen next in the season.

This has never happened before

– My voices for “The Farm” are pretty fresh. I think they work pretty closely up to the episodes before it comes on TV to edit the episodes. I’m ready now to do the voices that come next week, I have not done them yet. I have done half of them, he continues.

The voice actor is currently in the home office due to the infection control measures, which has resulted in a home studio. Here he records all of what eventually ends up in the program.

– I thought: “God, so uncomfortable”

– I have bought something called an Isovox which is a mini-studio. I’m wearing a large, soundproof helmet with a microphone inside. It looks stupid, but sounds fantastic, says Maurstad.

– If I pronounce a word incorrectly, as I sometimes do, I get it in return with feedback on how it should be pronounced. It’s about 1920 and it’s not all the old words I have complete control over. But I learn a lot.

– I follow with excitement the “Farm celebrity” and my biggest dream in life is to be a participant. All I want is to be a participant, he says with a laugh, before adding:

Despite being part of the “Farm” universe, Maurstad does not see himself as a celebrity. This he thinks more voice actors can recognize themselves in:

– It’s called “The Farm Celebrity” for a reason. I do not consider myself a celebrity exactly. There are probably not many of us voice actors who are really celebrities because of it, although probably many out there have heard us, perhaps throughout their lives, without knowing who we really are.

– I was recognized when someone left a comment on an Instagram photo, where they asked if I was the narrator in «The Farm». I have been given the green light to say that I am, he says.

The 33-year-old has also worked with visual interpretation, which involves explaining what happens to people who are visually impaired or blind. It resulted in a touching moment on the street:

It was once this summer that a little boy came walking by and stopped and said: “I know that voice.” He was very visually impaired, and has thus heard my voice explain, as a visual interpreter, what happens on a children’s TV series. Then they turned and asked me if it was true, and then I thought, “Wow, well heard.” I often use a slightly more informative voice as “voice over”, but he recognized the value in my voice. It was a bit cool, the voice actor admits.
