This year’s edition of Farmen kendis has offered a lot of drama. Amid all the psychological games and intrigue, some of the participants try to make the best of their experience on the farm.
The cows must be milked morning and evening, every single day. What started as a boring task ended up being a highlight for two of the participants.
At least for former ice hockey player Jan Tore Kjær (54) and entrepreneur and TV personality Christopher Mørch Husby (33).
– There was sport in it in the end, says Kjær.
Fed the cow in a specific pattern
Earlier in the season, the ladies on the farm had complained that the men never took part in the milking, so they decided to take action. Eventually, the ice hockey veteran and the entrepreneur became a “super team” when it came to milking.
– I think it was a lot of fun. Jan Tore always had to be there to take the time, says Husby.
The 33-year-old was so quick to milk that they started timing how long it took to empty the udder of milk.
– There was a bit of humor in everyday life, inside all the heavy things that have been there. There was some complaining about the milking to begin with. Then it turned out that Christopher thought it was a lot of fun to milk – with me as a “coach” by his side, says Kjær.
The participants feel sick when they see what is in the milk
In order to get ten liters of milk out of a cow in ten minutes, according to the boys, it is necessary that both the milker and the cow itself receive the right care and motivation.
– I stood there and fed the cow in the right way. In order for the cow not to feel discomfort, I had to feed the cow in a specific pattern, laughs Kjær, and continues:
– It became science out of this. I stood and motivated the cow.
– Made sport out of it
The boys asked people at the market and, according to them, got confirmation that Husby actually had a talent when it came to milking.
– If you were good at milking a cow, you could milk a cow in 20-30 minutes. We took my time – ten liters in ten minutes, says Husby, and continues:
– I think we were a bit fat, then.
Eventually, milking became a highlight of the day.
– As an old sports manager, it was fun to see that he took a job that no one really wanted, and turned it into something fun – made a bit of sport out of it, says Kjær.
Today they have a personal record of nine minutes.
– Our focus was to see how much I could reduce the time. Jan Tore helped me with this, says super milker Husby.
– You don’t have any clocks in there. How did you manage to make the time?
– We had this dairy project where we timed the cheese with a timer. We stole them with us to pass the time at the milking, admits the 33-year-old.
Dreaming of the WC in Texas
– Suddenly something ignited in Jan Tore and me. We were going to make a TV programme, where we go to the USA, milk cows, and take part in the WC. It took off completely, laughs Husby.
– Will it be the World Cup?
– You never know – we are quite spontaneous. And I’m my own boss, so anything is possible here.
According to Kjær, no one has bitten on their TV idea yet.
– People think we are crazy. Setting a milking record – who believes in it?
– But we have a dream that we could compete in one or another WC – in Texas or Colorado. Or the EC in Scotland or Ireland. Somewhere in the world, says Kjær hopefully.
