Marián Hossa played his last match at the winter stadium in Trenčín on Friday. In front of 6150 spectators, the Slovak hockey player said goodbye in an exhibition full of famous names from the NHL and the Slovak national team.
Together with his brother Marcel, he played in both teams and scored a goal for both. The duel ended with the victory of the white team 10:9 in overtime. A few seconds before the end, Rastislav Pavlikovský decided. Before the meeting, there were changes in the lineups.
Patrick Sharp did not travel to Trenčín for family reasons, and neither did Henrik Zetterberg due to injury. They were replaced by Tomáš Jurčo and Viktor Stalberg. Zetterberg spoke to the audience at least via video, as did Patrick Kane, Brent Seabrook, and Hoss’ former coach Joel Quenneville. All received the applause of the sold-out stands.
The Slovak hockey player scored a goal in the match and thus put a nice end to an extremely successful career. He had to interrupt it for the entire 2017/18 year due to health problems, in the end he never returned to the ice. He officially ended his career last April. In the NHL, he played 1,309 games in the regular season with the Ottawa Senators, Atlanta Thrashers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks.
He collected 1134 points for 525 goals and 609 assists. In eight seasons he scored at least 30 goals, in three of them he broke the 40-goal mark. During an extremely successful career, he won three Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks, he also played in the playoff finals with Pittsburgh and Detroit.
Hossa is the only player in NHL history to play in three Stanley Cup Finals with three different clubs. He played 205 duels in the playoffs and collected 149 points (52+97). As of 2020, he is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, and Chicago had his number 81 retired.
