The end of an era is here. The final episode of The Grand Tour will air on September 13. When it does, it will likely be the last time Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May appear on the show together.
The Grand Tour has been on air for eight years, but the trio is even more iconic thanks to BBC’s Top Gear. The show became a global phenomenon.
The latest episode is called One For The Road and Amazon has released a trailer. Noting that the trio have been together for 22 years, it shows Clarkson saying, “For the last time, we’re going.” The clip shows them traveling through the desert and sharing some trademark funny moments. They also seem to have problems with their cars, which include a modified Lancia Montecarlo.

While the trailer doesn’t reveal much, the video itself is already one of the biggest hits on YouTube.
Fatigue and electric cars
At the beginning of the year in an interview for The Times Clarkson hinted that after all the stunts he and his co-stars had already pulled off while filming various motoring shows, the show’s behind-the-scenes team was slowly running out of inspiration.
“I’ve driven cars at higher altitudes than anyone else and further north than anyone else. We have done everything that can be done to a car. When we had meetings about what to do next, people just threw up their hands,” Clarkson said.
As he also added, filming the show was also physically demanding, especially “if you’re not in shape, you’re fat and old”, which Clarkson says he already is. He recalled filming and camping in Mauritania and the Sahara desert, where the presenters could not just go to comfortable hotels.

During the interview, he also responded to the recent words of James May, who stated that with the current changes in personal transport and the advent of electromobility, now is a great time for new motoring shows.
“James May thinks there’s never been a more interesting time for the way we transport, and he’s probably right, but I don’t think it’s very interesting for television,” Clarkson said. And he didn’t let go of electrification.
“An electric car is no different from a freezer or a microwave oven. There is no magic or excitement in it.” According to him, this topic is more suitable for written media. By the way, Clarkson still acts in those. He writes a column about cars for The Sunday Times.
