At the age of 69, the well-known singer Maria Mendiolová from the duo Baccara died. Her most famous song is considered to be the song Yes Sir, I Can Boogie, which was also sung by the Czech singer Věra Špinarová († 65).
The singer, who was half of the Spanish duo Baccara, died in Madrid surrounded by her family on Saturday morning, writes BBC.
“My dear Maria, an amazing artist, but above all my friend, left us today,” her colleague Cristina Seville wrote on Instagram.
Mendiol founded the group Baccara with singer Mayte Mateosom in 1977, when both were flamenco dancers and entertained tourists on the island of Fuerteventura. The singers sang together their most famous hit Yes Sir, I Can Boogie. Subsequently, Cristina Sevill started singing with Mendiol.
The song reached the top of the UK charts and sold more than 16 million copies, breaking a historic record for female bands. The mentioned composition was also sung in Czech by the singer Věra Špinarová, under the title I Like Boogie.
