Next December 2, the Royal Theater will premiere a new production of the opera Rigoletto, of Giuseppe Verdi -in co-production with the ABAO Bilbao Opera and the Maestranza Theater in Seville, of which 22 functions will be offered, until January 2, 2024.
Miguel del Arco, responsible for the staging, portrays the power struggles, depravity and cruelty of a corrupt and degenerate society, in which only Gilda’s pure love glimpses a ray of light and hope. The spectacular set design by Sven Jonke and the suggestive lighting design of Juan Gomez-Cornejo accompany the tensions of the drama and the contradictions, passions and feelings of the characters, portrayed with the powerful figurines of Ana Garay.
Nicola Luisotti, who already directed Rigoletto at the Teatro Real in 2015, will do so again leading three stellar casts and the Choir and Orchestra of the Teatro Real. Christoph Koncz will direct four performances.
The baritones will give life to the main quintet Ludovic Tézier, Étienne Dupuis y Quinn Kelsey (Rigoletto), the tenors Javier Camarena, Xavier Anduaga y John Osborn (Duke of Mantua), the sopranos Adela Zaharia, Julie Fuchs y Ruth Iniesta (Gilda), the bass Simon Lim, Peixin Chen y Gianluca Buratto (Sparafucile) and the mezzo-sopranos Marina Viotti, Ramona Zaharia y Martina Belli (Maddalena).
